What does BFCM mean? The 2026 dates, and what a Shopify store decides before them

BFCM stands for Black Friday Cyber Monday — the shopping weekend that runs from Black Friday to Cyber Monday, and the busiest stretch of the year for most online stores. In 2026 it is Friday 27 November to Monday 30 November.

The 2026 dates

DayDate in 2026What it is
ThanksgivingThursday 26 NovemberUS holiday. It sets the date of everything after it.
Black FridayFriday 27 NovemberThe day after Thanksgiving. The start of BFCM.
Small Business SaturdaySaturday 28 NovemberThe weekend day between the two named ones.
SundaySunday 29 NovemberOften a quiet gap, and a good day to check your store.
Cyber MondayMonday 30 NovemberThe Monday after. The end of BFCM.

The rule behind the dates: Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, Black Friday is the day after, and Cyber Monday is the Monday after that. That is why BFCM moves between years but always lands in the last week of November or the first days of December.

What does BFCM stand for?

Black Friday and Cyber Monday, run together. Merchants write it as one word because for an online store they are one event: a four-day window in which shoppers expect offers, traffic is unusually intentional, and anything that breaks at checkout costs real money.

Is BFCM a weekend or a week?

Strictly, the four days above. In practice there is no fixed definition, and you will see “Cyber Week” and “Black November” used loosely for a longer run. Many stores start their offers earlier than the Friday and some keep them running through the week. What matters for planning is that the four days are when shoppers are looking for a deal, so that is when your store has to be at its most dependable.

Is Cyber Monday only online?

It began as the online counterpart to Black Friday. Today both days are promoted online and in store, and for a Shopify merchant the distinction does not change what you do: every order you take over that weekend arrives through the same checkout.

The three decisions for a Shopify store

The definition is the easy part. The preparation comes down to three decisions, and the order matters.

1. What are you offering, and who gets it?

A sitewide percentage off is the default because it takes ten seconds to decide, and it is the structure that spends the most margin, because it gives the same discount to the shopper who was already buying as to the one who needed persuading. BFCM pricing that protects your margin has the arithmetic, and the structures that ask the shopper to do something in return — a spend threshold, or a lower price per unit when they buy more (the setup is in how to add volume discounts to your Shopify store).

2. When do you stop changing things?

Pick a date, a week or so ahead, after which nothing about prices, discounts or the theme changes. A change made on Black Friday morning is a change you cannot test under the conditions it will run in. The BFCM checklist covers what to fix before the freeze and what to leave alone after it.

3. Have you tested the discount at checkout?

The expensive failure is the offer that shows on the product page and vanishes at checkout, found by a customer rather than by you. Test in a fresh private window, all the way to the checkout page, with the worst-case basket. Seven reasons a discount does not apply at checkout is the diagnostic order, and how Shopify discount stacking works explains the combination limits behind the most common one.

Short on time? If you only do one thing before 27 November, place a real test order with your offer running and look at the discount line on the order itself. Everything else on this page is easier to fix than a checkout that does not discount.
